Extracurricular Opportunities:
Summer Music Camps - By geographical proximity, we are fortunate to live within a relatively short driving distance of a myriad of amazing summer music and art camps. These camps cover a broad range of experiences: shorter or longer, different types of music, different types of media, college residential, and much, much more.
Pursuing in depth musical or artistic study in a camp setting during the summer months is a great way to keep your student artist motivated and moving forward when school is not in session.

Lisle Community Band - Playing in a music ensemble should be a rewarding, lifelong experience. High school age students through adults of any age are welcome to join without audition. A wonderful variety of music is performed each summer including marches, classical music, original works for band and popular music from movies and Broadway. Concerts are Thursdays throughout the summer, with the final concert by the Jazz Band on July 30th.
Youth Symphony of DuPage - Youth Symphony of DuPage is dedicated to bringing advanced ensemble training and performance opportunities to 150 talented young musicians from DuPage County and nearby towns. The orchestra’s repertoire tackles advanced works, from classics to modern and even new works by area composers. Auditions are in the fall for the upcoming season.
Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra - MSYO seeks to promote and challenge talented orchestral musicians by providing an opportunity to perform repertoire of a wide variety of styles and historical periods with the goal of musical excellence. Membership in MYSO consists of junior high and high school students from Joliet and 21 surrounding communities as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College.
Music for All Honor Ensembles - Music for All presents three positively life-changing honor ensemble experiences for the nation’s outstanding high school concert band, orchestra and jazz musicians. As part of the Music for All National Festival, the honor ensembles provide a national stage and world-class learning and performance opportunities with distinguished conductors, artists and master teachers.
Schaumburg Youth Orchestra - The program enrolls new and returning members by audition at the beginning summer. The orchestras exist to supplement the students' curricular training, as all members are encouraged to participate in their school orchestra or band program. Each of the orchestras performs two concerts annually at the Prairie Center for the Arts.
Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra - The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra attracts a national reputation for providing not only an engaging musical experience for its students, but also a comprehensive learning environment which promotes curiosity, imagination, critical thinking, and collaboration. With nine large ensembles and nearly 30 chamber ensembles, EYSO auditions record numbers of students each year in addition to the many hundreds of musicians who enjoy its rigorous methods of inquiry and “expert noticing.”
West Suburban Youth Orchestra - The orchestras of the WSYO have been educating students while producing high quality music for over 50 years. Musicians in either of the program's two orchestras enjoy being part of an established tradition of excellence.
Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra - Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras has provided music education through orchestral programs and performance opportunities of the highest caliber since 1946. CYSO musicians receive superb orchestral and chamber music instruction from Chicago’s most respected professional musicians, perform in the world’s greatest concert halls, and gain the self-confidence and discipline necessary for a successful future.
Grammys in the Schools - Grammys in the Schools is an organization that works to make a difference in people's lives through music. And by "people," they mostly mean young people. And by "difference," they mean change for the better. And by "music," they mean…well you know what they mean. Basically, they unleash the power of music that is in all of us. You can nominate your music teacher for a GRAMMY Music Educator Award.
