The District 99 Orchestra program is comprised of four curricular orchestra classes at two high schools, South High School and North High School, located in Downers Grove, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. There are approximately 120 string students enrolled in the orchestra program each year.
In addition to participating in the curricular orchestra classes, Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra and Honors Symphonic Orchestra, District 99 Orchestra students participate in the Illinois Music Education Association District and All-State ensembles, the IHSA Solo and Ensemble contest, musical pit orchestra, jazz band and in an annual chamber music program, led by string quartet in residence, Grant Street String Quartet.
Students in the District 99 Orchestra have worked with many prestigious guest artists, including Barrage, Break of Reality, PROJECT Trio, Sam Stryke, Jennifer Leckie, Miho Sasaki, and Michael Schelle. The orchestra has had the opportunity to travel internationally and perform for audiences in Spain, Germany, Croatia and Austria.
